Before payment: invoice
A crypto invoice states what is owed, by whom, for what work and by when. It may include payment instructions, an asset and a wallet address. The transfer may never occur, so an invoice alone is not evidence of a completed blockchain payment.
After payment: receipt
A receipt records a completed payment. For a crypto transfer, a useful record joins the transaction hash, network, amount and date with the payee, client and service context. ReceiptOnChain starts from an existing transaction and creates a PDF receipt. It does not create payment requests, charge a wallet or process funds.
A simple example
Invoice
“Sample Client owes Example Studio 100 USDT for design work, due Friday.”
The client has not yet paid.
Receipt
“Example Studio records a confirmed 100 USDT transfer from Sample Client, with its transaction hash and date.”
Illustrative example; no real transaction is represented.
What a transaction hash can prove
A hash lets someone look up an on-chain transfer and inspect its network, addresses, amount and status. It does not establish the legal identities behind addresses or prove which services were delivered. The names and notes on a receipt are entered by the person creating it, so check them against your agreement and communication records.
When to use ReceiptOnChain
- Use the free generator once a supported payment is confirmed and you have the transaction hash.
- Download the PDF for your client or internal payment file.
- Sign in if you want to save receipts, reuse clients, export reports or email saved receipts from the app.
The receipt is a record-keeping aid, not a guarantee of tax compliance or a replacement for legal, accounting or tax advice. For a broader file, see payment records for freelancers.
Frequently asked questions
Can I issue a receipt before the transaction confirms?
The guest generator requires a confirmed transaction and a valid date before producing a PDF.
Does the receipt request a payment?
No. It documents an existing transfer. Use an invoicing or payment request process when money is still owed.
